Development System 2 Is Underway!

What is Development System 2 (DS2) you may ask? The current system (which we will now retroactively refer to as Development System 1, or DS1) is a very quick throw-together in order for to get up and running quickly, learn the basics about building and operating a TERA service, and have a bit of fun. As such, it is all put together on a single machine using various online guides and tutorials. It also requires a VPN to gain access to it, which we believe is a major hurdle to anyone wishing to join as a play-tester. Basically what we are saying is: DS1 was attempt #1 at figuring things out and obviously not a production-ready system.

Taking what we have learned so far from DS1, we now begin work on a (hopefully) better designed system that involves separate account servers, a separate API system, separate game world servers, separate database system with schedules backups and maintenance tasks, and one or more public facing relay servers players can connect to from their region.

Our first task is setting up the hypervisor and virtual servers for the accounts and API system. We will continue to also develop the game system logic on the current DS1 while we carefully put together DS2. When DS2 is ready to begin operation, we will migrate all of the data (accounts, characters, etc.) over to it and retire DS1. Development work will then continue on DS2 until we (hopefully) get it production-ready and have enough funds to launch our live service.
